Vectum

About

Vectum is the study association for all students of Econometrics & Operations Research at the Maastricht University and currently has about 250 members, including a rising number of foreign students. This number changes on a year-to-year basis with an increasing trend.

Our History

Vectum (Verenigde Econometristen Uit Maastricht) was founded on November 30, 1994. During the 2011 restructuring process of the study associations at the School of Business and Economics at Maastricht University, Vectum joined SCOPE, the umbrella association at the School of Business and Economics at Maastricht University, and rebranded SCOPE | Vectum.

In 2017, three out of the four SCOPE associations (SCOPE | 3MA , SCOPE | Economics and SCOPE | Focus) merged into one study association: SCOPE Maastricht. Vectum did not take part in this merger, and is still an independent study association. In 2020, SCOPE Maastricht and SCOPE | Vectum, both agreed on Vectum reverting to its original name to avoid confusion towards external parties.

What we do

Throughout the year, Vectum organizes a broad range of social, academic, and career-related activities, such as sports events, drinks, trips outside of Maastricht, regular research lectures, extra tutorials, the Vectum Case Day, the Vectum Business Trip, and the Consultancy Tour with Asset | Econometrics (the Econometrics & Operations Research study association in Tilburg). On this website, we provide a platform for companies to promote open positions to our members.  We also have our own magazine, the PerVectum, which is published quarterly. Finally, we work in close cooperation with the department of Quantitative Economics at the School of Business and Economics at Maastricht University on the evaluation and further development of the study programme.

LOES

Vectum is part of the LOES (Landelijk Orgaan der Econometrische Studieverenigingen), the national association for all Econometrics students. In cooperation with LOES, we offer the LED (Landelijke Econometristendag), the National Econometricians Day, which is the largest annual recruitment event for Econometrics & Operations Research students at Dutch universities, and the LEST (Landelijke Landelijke Econometristen Sport Toernooi), the National Econometricians Sport Tournament.

Our Mission

Vectum's main goal is to offer students insight into real world applications of the knowledge gained at university. We achieve this by establishing a direct link between companies and students at our events, such as in-house days and cases. In addition, we strive to create a welcoming social environment for all of our members by hosting weekly informal activities.
